Senate approves bill that could end Indiana’s public health emergency

Governor Eric Holcomb

STATEHOUSE — The Indiana Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that could bring an end to the state’s coronavirus public health declaration.

The proposal would put administrative steps in place that have been sought by Governor Eric Holcomb.

These include the continuation of enhanced federal matching funds for Medicaid; the continuation of the enhanced benefit for those receiving federal food assistance, and extending the ability to efficiently vaccinate five to 11-year-olds.

The House and Senate must come together on a single version of the bill before it advances to the Governor for his signature.

The current emergency declaration is set to expire on Friday.

The public health emergency has been in place since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Holcomb has extended the declaration 23 times by Executive Order.
