Four Southeastern Indiana high school football teams are ranked in the top 10 of their respective classes in the IFCA preseason polls. East Central, which moves back to Class 4A this year following two seasons in 5A based on the IHSAA competitive balance factor, is ranked #1 in 4A. The Trojans Week 1 opponent, Lawrenceburg, is ranked third in Class 3A. Milan is at #4 in 1A while MIFC and sectional rival North Decatur holds down the ninth spot. The 2026 high school football season kicks off a week from tomorrow.
The Chicago White Sox blanked the Cincinnati Reds 5-0 in the Windy City in a game heard last night on WRBI. Former Reds ace Luis Castillo and two relievers held Cincinnati to two hits – both off the bat of Sal Stewart. Castillo pitched seven scoreless innings, and gave up a hit and walked two while striking out 10. Rhett Lowder (4-8) took the loss. He gave up two runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. The rubber match of the series is this afternoon. Andrew Abbott (6-7, 3.92 ERA) starts for the Reds. He’ll be opposed by righthander Davis Martin (9-6, 4.17 ERA). Coverage begins at 1:40 on 103.9 FM.
The NFL preseason kicks off tonight for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Indianapolis Colts. The Bengals entertain the Detroit Lions. Quarterback Joe Burrow, wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins plus defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence will see action tonight for the Bengals. Kickoff in downtown Cincinnati is at 7:00…The Colts are on the road against the New England Patriots. The two teams held joint practices this week in Foxborough. Anthony Richardson will start at quarterback for the Colts. Riley Leonard is also expected to see a lot of action. Richardson and Leonard are competing for the backup role behind Daniel Jones. Kickoff in Foxborough is at 7:30.
