Whitewater Flooding Forces Evacuations

Mandatory evacuation notice for Whitewater River flooding in Dearborn County

(Dearborn County, IN) Residents in several areas of Dearborn County are being ordered to evacuate immediately because of major flooding along the Whitewater River.

The Dearborn County Emergency Management Agency issued a mandatory evacuation order Thursday night, citing unprecedented flooding on the river.

Residents in the following areas are being told to leave immediately:

  • Longnecker
  • Pinhook
  • Cranes Run
  • Barber
  • Bonnie Lane
  • Herberts Lane
  • Cobblestone Court
  • Stonefield’s Lane
  • Loia Creek Lane
  • Anyone living along or immediately adjacent to the Whitewater River in Dearborn County

Officials are urging residents not to delay. Anyone in the affected areas should leave immediately and move to a safe location outside the evacuation zone.

An evacuation shelter opened at 9 p.m. Thursday at:

Residents who need shelter are being directed to that location.

Emergency officials stressed that the evacuation is mandatory and are asking residents to follow the instructions of emergency personnel rather than attempt to remain in flooded areas.
