The Reds got past the Miami Marlins 1-0 in the series opener in downtown Cincinnati heard last night on WRBI. Chase Burns outdueled Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara to run his record to 14-2. Burns pitched seven scoreless innings of four-hit baseball. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Emilio Pagan tossed a perfect ninth inning to nail down his 15th save. Eugenio Suarez’s RBI double in the sixth off Alcantara scored Tyler Stephenson from first base for the game’s only run. It was Suarez’s 1500th career hit. The middle game of the series is tonight. Brady Singer (5-11, 4.66 ERA) gets the ball for Cincinnati. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
Before last night’s game, the Reds placed righthanded reliever Tony Santillan (left oblique strain) on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville.
It was the Indiana Fever over the Dallas Wings 98-87 in WNBA action last night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston both recorded double doubles. Clark led the Fever with 29 points and 10 assists. Boston had 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Fever begins a four-game road trip tomorrow against the Chicago Sky. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES heads north of the border to the Toronto area for the Honda Ontario Dealers road race. Points leader Alex Palou is closing in on a historic fifth championship.
