Boys varsity basketball recaps from February 18 and 19

The following are reported boys varsity basketball recaps (unless noted otherwise) from February 18 and 19. There may be updates, so please check back.

Batesville rolled to a 65-26 win at Morristown. The Dog D kept the Yellow Jackets to single digit scoring in each quarter.

Offensively, Tom Raver and Cole Pride posted 15 and 14 points respectively. Both players logged four rebounds. Raver had three steals as well and Pride blocked three shots.  Eli Pierson added eight points and Brendan Heiser scored seven. Heiser also had six assists. Cade Kaiser led the team in boards with eight.

Batesville also won the JV game 57-20. Conner Drake’s 14 points were a Bulldog best. Gus Prickel netted 13, Carson Laker scored nine and eight points came from Grant Goldsmith.

East Central beat Shelbyville 60-45. The Trojans dominated the glass by a count of 29-11. EC actually trailed 23-20 at the half then outscored the Bears 15-3 in the third to turn the game in favor of the St. Leon boys.

East Central put four players in double figure scoring. Ryan Selhorst led with 16, Caleb Mergenthal followed with 13, Jadyn Dennis posted 12 and Cooper Hoog collected 10 and also had a team-best seven rebounds and three steals. Merganthal and Casey McQueen had six boards each. Dennis dished out five assists.

The Jac-Cen-Del varsity boys clinched a tie for the ORVC championship with a 64-47 win over Milan. Wyatt Day’s 27 points paced the Eagles. Caleb Simon put in 15.

The Eagles will go for the outright championship at South Ripley on Friday. But should the Raiders get the W, then the Eagles, Raiders and also the Rebels of Southwestern would all win a share of the title. You’ll be able to hear Jac-Cen-Del at South Ripley this Friday night on Country 103.9 WRBI starting around 7:30 pm.

Edinburgh won the MHC outright with a 100-73 victory over South Decatur.  In the loss for the Cougars, Hunter Johnson had 30 points and six rebounds. Jacob Scruggs posted 21 points and four steals.

South Decatur bounced back and defeated Hauser 79-70.  Johnson’s 22 points were tops, Dale Peters put in 20, Scruggs netted 16 and Evan Wullenweber added 13.  Johnson collected eight rebounds, Scruggs had five assists while Peters and Wullenweber both had three takeaways.

North Decatur got by Southwestern Shelby 57-55.  The Chargers held slim leads of one to four points at each stop.  Lance Nobbe had 17 points to pace the Chargers.  Carson Parmer scored 13 and Keden Muckerheide booked a dozen.

The ND JV won 46-26.  Top Charger scorers were Brayden Hancock with 10, Brady Mauer with eight and Mason Morris with six.

Oldenburg was a 44-39 winner in overtime at Rushville.   The Twisters led 27-23 after three quarters but needed a Nick Folop bucket in the closing moments to force overtime tied at 35.

OA got the jump during the extra session and held on the advantage to win by five.  Folop finished with 19 points. Frank Moorman had nine.

Connersville won the EIAC outright with a 52-31 win at Lawrenceburg.  The Spartans had an outstanding shooting night hitting 63 percent, including 4-of-7 from deep.

For CHS, Kaleb Sparks and Lucas Barron both scored 10.  Josh Williams and Gage Brown each had eight with Jacob Williams following with seven.  Williams also had five rebounds and four assists.

For LHS, Dahya Patel posted 13 points an d six rebounds.  Ashton Craig added 10 points.

Lawrenceburg was a 55-45 winner over rival South Dearborn.

Patel had 13 points and six rebounds in this game as well, Craig scored 12 while both Garrett Yoon and Logan Rohrer contribued 10 points.  Rohrer also had five assists and four rebounds.
