Roy Dale Friedersdorf, 69 of Westport

Roy Dale Friedersdorf, 69, of Westport, passed away on August 8, 2026, at his home, after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. A fight he faced with the same determination, positive spirit and good humor that defined his entire life.  Roy was born on July 23, 1957, to Robert and Mary (Bokelman) Friedersdorf. Roy led a life of integrity, devotion to his family and community service. Those who knew Roy will remember him for his unwavering positive attitude, his wonderful quick wit and tireless work ethic. Roy graduated from South Decatur High School in 1975 and went on to earn a degree in agriculture from Purdue University in 1979. Following generations of farmers, farming was not merely a profession, but his calling, and he worked the land his entire life. Roy also followed his father and grandfather in becoming a Pioneer seed sales representative for many years and he had involvement with Decatur County Grain Growers Association. His dedication to rural life extended well beyond his own fields into service as a Decatur County REMC director 1994-2018 as well as serving on the Indiana Statewide Board 1997-2018 and the National NRECA board of directors 2008-2018. Roy was also an active member of Kiwanis. On the most blessed of days, Roy married the love of his life, Pamela Garriott, in 2011. Together they shared 15 years of unmatched joy and happiness. Above all, they treasured time together with grandchildren, Katelynn, Carson, Zakk, Joplin and Willow. Roy was a lifelong member of Sardinia Baptist Church. His quiet, abiding trust in the Lord was a foundation for his life and sustained him with strength and hope throughout his life and especially during his illness. Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Pam, his sons, Anthony (Caitlyn), Wyatt and Jaret Friedersdorf and stepson, Clint Berry; brother, David Friedersdorf; sisters, Karen Friedersdorf and Joyce Menchinger and his cherished grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved parents with whom he is now reunited in heaven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Sardinia Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be Wednesday, August 12, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport.
