Batesville girls golf finished 13th out of 18 teams at Monday’s IHSAA State Preview at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The Bulldogs as a team shot a 393.

Two new names will guide varsity spring sports programs at Batesville High School in ’26-27. Jared Keck has been named head baseball coach after serving the past three seasons as varsity assistant under former coach Tyler Burcham. Keck has been with the Bulldog baseball program since the 2022-23 school year…And Stacy Kessens has been tapped to lead the Batesville HS softball program. Kessens was a four-year letter winner and three-time all-EIAC player for the Bulldogs. She was also an Academic All-State selection her senior year in 2008. Kessens previously served as an assistant coach at BHS from 2017 to 2021.

The Cincinnati Reds open a three-game series tonight on the South Side of Chicago against the American League Central Division-leading White Sox. Nick Lodolo (3-2. 4.60 ERA) is set come off the Injured List to make the start for the Reds. Righthander Sean Burke (7-6, 3.08 ERA) goes for the White Sox. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 103.9 FM.

The Reds have optioned infielder/outfielder Ivan Johnson to Triple-A Louisville. A corresponding roster move was not announced.

Former Major League pitcher and Terre Haute native Tommy John is in hospice care. The 83-year-old John released a statement through the New York Yankees thanking the team, the Steinbrenner family and fans for their support throughout his 26-year MLB career. John also thanked Dr. Frank Jobe, the surgeon who performed the ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction that helped save his career. The groundbreaking procedure later became known as “Tommy John Surgery.”

The Indiana Fever returns home to face the New York Liberty tonight in WNBA action. Indiana has won seven of its last 10 games. The Fever is fourth in the league standings. Tipoff in downtown Indianapolis tonight is at 7:30.
