Man Seriously Injured in Tree Stand Fall

(Switzerland County, IN) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a tree stand accident that occurred in Switzerland County on Friday.

It was around 12 p.m. when officers and emergency personnel responded to the area near the 14,000 block of Westerkamm Lane after receiving a report of a man who had fallen from a tree stand.

Upon arrival, officers determined that 74-year-old Luther Hull of Fairfield, Ohio, had been attempting to repair his tree stand when he fell approximately 21 feet.

Conservation officers say Hull was not wearing a full-body safety harness at the time of the fall.

He was airlifted to University of Cincinnati Health with serious bodily injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

Conservation Officers remind hunters using elevated platforms to always wear a full-body safety harness, use a tree stand safety rope, avoid installing or removing tree stands alone, and thoroughly inspect tree stands before climbing.
