Paul J. Fullenkamp

Paul J. Fullenkamp, age 93 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 26, 2024, peacefully at his home with his family by his side.  Born November 12, 1930, in Dayton, Ohio, he is the son of Lawrence and Olivia (Nee: Westgerdes) Fullenkamp.  He married Dorothey Senft on June 26, 1952, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Hamburg, Indiana.

Paul was an Army veteran during the Korean War and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the V.F.W. Post #3183.  Paul purchased Dunlap’s Building Materials in Batesville in 1973 and owned and operated it for over 47 years until his retirement in 2020.

Almost two years ago while celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, Paul was watching all of the little people running around in his front yard.  His daughter-in-law said, “You know, this is all your fault.”  He chuckled and said “I know.”  He was so proud of the family he and Dottie had created together.  Paul was the epitome of what every man, husband, father and grandfather should be.  He loved and respected Dottie every single day.  As a young man, he fought for his country in Korea.  He taught his children a work ethic that can’t be found in this day and age.  He showed his grandchildren how to fish, garden, and build things.  But most importantly, his quiet acts of love and belief in God will live on in the hearts of all of us who love him.

He is survived by his wife Dorothey of Batesville; daughters Cindy (Sam) Cornett of Batesville and Paula (Pete) Trenkamp of Greensburg, Indiana; sons Steven (Diane) Fullenkamp and Mark (Linda) Fullenkamp, all of Batesville and Leo (Theresa) Fullenkamp of Greensburg; sister Mary Ann (Bill) Moeller of Oldenburg and brother Larry (Loraine) Fullenkamp of Oldenburg; 17 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sister Beatrice Fehringer and brothers Ken, Ed, Gene, Albert, Norbert, and Vic Fullenkamp and the holy innocents we hold close to our hearts.

Visitation is Wednesday, May 1st, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 2nd, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Stan Pondo officiating.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.  Memorials contributions may be made to the St. Louis School.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
