Heavy Trash Week coming up in Greensburg, but with changes

Greensburg, IN —  The City of Greensburg will provide heavy trash collection next Monday through Friday (August 15-19), but Street Commissioner Mark Klosterkemper says there will be two big changes to the service because of the volume and weight of items collected in the past.

“We are not going to be collecting any kind of construction or demolition debris, and all of the things that have been tossed out to the curb loose – clothes, toys, whatever – we’re going to require all loose trash to be bagged simply because of the amount of time it takes for us to hand-pick load after load after load of it up,” Klosterkemper said.

He says residents are being notified about the changes to the program.

“We will be providing door hangers for violations and want people to be aware that if they don’t get it taken care of within about 10 days, there’s a possibility this could be cleaned up later by the city and there would be a $250 penalty,” Klosterkemper added.

The changes were made as a result of discussions between Klosterkemper, Mayor Joshua Marsh, and city employees, after Klosterkemper submitted photos to both the Board of Works and City Council in June, showing items he and his team had to deal with during this year’s first Heavy Trash Week back in May.
