Franklin County Experiences Increase in COVID-19 Cases

Brookville, IN —The Franklin County Health Department announced Monday an increase of 17 positive COVID-19 cases over the past week. Officials have said that anyone who was at the teen dance or at the river taking pictures before the dance on Friday may have been exposed.

Additional cases are known to have been at large gatherings including religious services. “COVID-19 is still here and just a strong as it was this spring,” said Franklin County Health Officer Dr. Darrell Brimhall. “It is crucial to take preventative measures such as washing hands and practicing social distancing which includes avoiding large gatherings, particularly in indoor spaces,” Brimhall continued. “This is the largest increase in positive cases we’ve seen in our county since the pandemic started.”
FCHD reminds citizens to cover your cough or sneeze, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, stay home if you are sick, social distance by at least 6 feet, and wear a mask if possible.  “As we said from the beginning, the best way to get through this is by working together. A mask protects you and others,” said Dr. Brimhall.
Symptoms of COVID include fever, shortness of breath, cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sudden loss of taste or smell, shaking, chills, and headache. If you have been recently tested for COVID or have symptoms, stay home until you receive your results.
