Batesville city officials receive long-term water supply project update

Batesville, In. — President of Curry & Associates, Inc., Lori Young P.E., and principal from H.J. Umbaugh & Associates, Christina Dewitt delivered a presentation regarding the long-term water supply project.

The project includes a new well field, a raw water main and new treatment facility for a total cost of $15,365,000.

The well field is on 117 acres in Franklin County that will pull raw water from the Whitewater River Valley Outwash Aquifer System and Subsystem. Three wells are proposed that would produce 700 gallons per minute.

The proposed raw water main is about 16 miles in length through mostly rural areas back to the Batesville area. City officials have been working to acquire right-of-way and are making significant progress.

The proposed treatment facility is on property currently owned by the city. The parcel of land is located off Commerce drive near an existing 500,000-gallon storage tank. Three high service pumps are proposed that would provide 2,000,000 gallons with the capacity to produce 3,000,000 if needed.

A timeline released during the presentation has a scheduled date of May 2018 for the completion of R-O-W acquisition, bid opening in November of 2018 and construction tentative start date of January of 2019. The scheduled completion date is October of 2020.
