Man Nabbed on Gun, Drug Charges

(Jennings County, IN) – A St. Paul man who, authorities say was a felon armed with a handgun, was arrested last weekend following a struggle with Jennings County deputies.

The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a home about an attempted burglary.

While there, they realized a home across the road was the address for a man who had an active warrant.

Deputies went to the address next door in an attempt to serve the warrant, but as they approached the home, a man later identified as Matthew Boggs allegedly fled the driveway on foot.

Boggs then allegedly tried to pull a gun from a holster on his waistband.

Deputies caught up with Boggs in a nearby creek and a struggle broke out.

Investigators say he tried to swallow bags of what appeared to be illegal drugs and continued trying to pull the gun from its holster.

A K9 was deployed to detain Boggs and take him into custody.

Deputies say they recovered 27 grams of methamphetamine and a 9 mm handgun.

Boggs was treated at the scene and at the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He’s facing charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute (Level 2 felony); Resisting Law Enforcement with a Deadly Weapon; Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Injury;
Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon ( all Level 5 felonies); Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 felony), and Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A misdemeanor).

The sheriff’s office says a deputy was also treated for minor injuries suffered during the struggle with Boggs.
