(Indianapolis) — Brickyard Weekend is here, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway wants fans to have one thing locked in before they leave the house: a plan.
IMS officials are pointing race-goers to IMS.com/PlanAhead, an interactive hub covering everything from directions and parking to gate rules, digital tickets and ADA accessibility, ahead of a jam-packed weekend featuring the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
Here’s what fans need to know before heading to the Brickyard.
Bridge closure changes the route
The 16th Street bridge over the White River remains closed. Fans should instead use the 10th Street, Michigan Street, New York Street or Washington Street bridges, then take White River Parkway north to 16th Street. Drivers can also stay on 10th Street to Tibbs Avenue and head north.
Gate 2 is credential-only Saturday and Sunday — a prepaid parking pass is required, and the gate can only be reached from the east into Tunnel 2.
The newly reopened 30th Street bridge offers another way in, feeding Gate 10 on the north side of the track. Free parking is available there in the North 40 (Lot 7), and Turn 3 infield parking is also accessed through Gate 10, which takes traffic from both directions.
Tickets
- Friday, July 25: $25 general admission for Cup Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series practice. Kids 15 and under are free with a paying adult in GA areas.
- Saturday, July 26: $45 GA (infield mounds only) for Pennzoil 250 qualifying/race and Brickyard 400 qualifying. Flex seating is $65. Reserved seats run $65-$153.
- Sunday, July 27: $50 GA (infield mounds only) for the Brickyard 400 presented by PPG. Flex seating is $75. Reserved seats run $65-$205.
Kids 15 and under get in free with a paying adult in GA and flex seating all three days.
Parking
Free parking is available all weekend in Lot 7 (North 40); Saturday and Sunday, that lot is reached through Gate 10 off 30th Street. Friday only, free parking also opens in Turn 3 Infield via Gate 2 or Gate 10.
Paid options Saturday and Sunday include Lot 1B, Lot 2, Lot 3G and Main Gate ($20), Turn 3 Infield ($25, prepaid only), Lot 6A ($40), Gate 1/Parcel B ($75) and Gate 1 Tailgating ($125). ADA parking runs $20-$25. Motorcycle parking is $20 in the South Carousel Lot (prepaid only) on race days, free on Friday.
Know before you go
Cashless facility: IMS accepts debit and credit only for tickets, parking, concessions and merchandise.
Security: All fans pass through magnetometers at gate entry. Coolers are limited to 18x15x15 inches, and each fan may bring one cooler and one backpack or book bag.
Water stations: Five refill stations are set up on race day in Turns 1, 2 and 4, plus behind Tower Terrace and in the Garage Area.
Sam’s Club Fan Midway: Open in the infield behind Tower Terrace — 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, with NASCAR driver appearances and fan activities.
IMS Museum: Tickets are $25 general, $23 for seniors 55+, $18 for military. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
Road closures to plan around
Street parking is banned on the south and east sides of streets bounded by 25th Street, Georgetown Road, Lynhurst Drive and Crawfordsville Road from 6 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Sunday.
Georgetown Road closes to traffic south of 25th Street 30 minutes before both the Pennzoil 250 (Saturday) and the Brickyard 400 (Sunday). Sixteenth Street between Olin Avenue and the roundabout closes on the same 30-minute-prior schedule, and won’t be accessible from Polco Street. Drivers coming east on Crawfordsville Road will be turned around at the 16th Street roundabout; drivers heading west on 16th Street from downtown will be diverted south on Olin Avenue.
