Mrs. Tanya M. (Brys) Curry, age 94, of Union, Kentucky, formerly of Switzerland County, Indiana, entered this life on May 15, 1932 in Bear Branch, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late William Brys and Golda Vandus (Cole) Brys Hebel. Tanya resided most of her life in Switzerland County, Indiana. At the age of nine, she went to live with her beloved grandparents, Harvey E. and Nellie M. (Newkirk) Cole. She was a 1950 graduate of Vevay High School and attended Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana. Tanya was united in marriage on June 10, 1950 to James “Jimmy” Curry at the Switzerland Baptist Church Parsonage. Tanya and Jimmy shared nearly 55 years of marriage together and were blessed with four children. Tanya worked alongside her family on the farm and devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. After her children were all enrolled in school, she began working outside the home. She was employed at the US Shoe Factory in Osgood, Indiana, where she worked as a cutter and stitcher. She later worked at Randall’s Textron in Vevay and at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison. She also served as a teacher’s aide for the Switzerland County School Corporation. She was employed as the first advertising manager for the Vevay Newspaper. In 1969, Tanya purchased the Fabric and Sew Shop in Vevay, Indiana, where she proudly owned and operated for ten years. She later relocated the business to East Enterprise, Indiana, where she expanded her services to include upholstery. When her aunt, Arlena (Cole) Brown, needed assistance at Brown’s Restaurant, Tanya made the selfless decision to close her shop so she could lend a helping hand. Because of the love for working with children, Tanya returned to the Switzerland County High School, where she served as a study hall aide until her retirement in 1999. Guided by her unwavering faith, Tanya answered God’s calling by becoming a certified lay speaker. She faithfully served through Fairview United Methodist Church, where she led the after-school program, a ministry she believed God had placed on her heart. Tanya had a special gift for connecting with both the young and the elderly, and found great joy in sharing God’s love through acts of service. She also cherished ministering to the residents of Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, offering encouragement and compassion to those she met. She was a faithful member of the former Fairview United Methodist Church, where her love for Christ and dedication to ministry remained the cornerstone of her life. She loved singing gospel music and was blessed to share that ministry at revivals for many years alongside Mavis and Wanda Scudder. Tanya later moved to Union, Kentucky, to live with her son, Terry. While there, she faithfully attended First Church in Union. In her free time, Tanya enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her delicious homemade pies, which earned her the affectionate nickname of “The Pie Lady.” Tanya also found great joy in gardening and tending to her flower beds. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, who were the pride and joy of her life. Tanya went to be with her Lord and Savior and passed away at 10:01 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence, Kentucky.
Tanya will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Rhonda Cutter and her companion, Wayne Robinson of Rising Sun, IN, and Vicki Koons and her husband, Tom of Versailles, IN; her sons, Terry Curry of Union, KY, and Greg Curry and his wife, Cathy of East Enterprise, IN; her grandchildren, Troy Dale Smith (Endea), Jamie Works (Keith), Jacob Koons (Cher), Jeremy Koons (Brittany), Jackie Murray (Brian), Janelle Seal (James), Alissa Lancaster (Danny), Erica Deaver (Thomas), Adam Curry (Amanda), Micah Curry (Brandy), Tara Hite (Jack), Shane Curry (Robyn), Robert Ace, and Jeremy Robinson; her several great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Beverly Wiefering of Clearwater, FL, and Barbara Rapp and her husband, Chuck of Bellview, KY; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Brys; her mother, Golda Vandus (Cole) Hebel; her husband, James “Jimmy” Curry; her great-great-grandson, Ezra James “EZ” Koons; her infant brother; her step-father, Irvin Hebel; and her daughter-in-law, Anna Marie (Bresser) Curry.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
