Richard H. “Rick” Zins

Richard H. Zins, 75, of Batesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, May 22, 2026. Born on October 5, 1950, he was the son of Virgil and Rosella (Billman) Zins.

Rick spent most of his life farming alongside his two brothers, a way of life he deeply loved and took great pride in. Riding in the combine became a rite of passage for his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. He was also an avid hunter who especially enjoyed coon hunting, not only for the sport, but for the time it allowed him to spend with his family.

Rick found his greatest peace sitting at a ball field, gymnastics meet, or basketball court, wherever his children and grandchildren were playing. Family was the center of his life, and he treasured every moment spent supporting and encouraging them.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Candice (née Cook) Zins; his daughter, Shavonne (Gregory) Mehlbauer of Metamora; his son, Brett (Emily) Zins of Batesville; his siblings, Jerry Zins of Sunman, Ron Zins of Batesville, Ann Hoff of Brookville, and Tom Zins of Sunman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rhian and Mason Mehlbauer of Metamora, and McKenzie and Briggs Zins of Batesville, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his grandson, Aiden Mehlbauer, and his sister, Terry Richter.
