Ron Gallagher, 73 years old of Dover, IN passed away suddenly Thursday, February 6, 2020. Formerly of Hartwell, a graduate of Roger Bacon High School, and an Army veteran, Ron was an all-around good guy that thoroughly enjoyed life. He met his wife of 40 years, Barb, on a blind date set up by her friend. After months of trying to get ahold of her, they ran into one another at a baseball game and never lost touch again. After deciding they wanted to move west of Cincinnati, they found property in Dover and began building their home where they immediately fell in love with the peace and quiet of their surroundings. Ron loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, skiing, camping and running. He and Barb travelled the United States and camped in many of the National Parks. He was a hard worker and never said no to anyone that needed help. Ron was extremely handy and he and Barb did the majority of building their home by themselves. Once the house was completed, any remodeling that was needed he did himself and was in the middle of a bathroom renovation when he passed away. Ron was an electrician by trade and a member of the IBEW Local 212, now a member of that same retiree group. Always helping out at the church festivals, Ron was the “defatter” of the chicken fryers and would pass along the chicken to the flour guys once he was finished. Ron was considered a friend by anyone that met him and would go to bat for you at any given moment. He lived by a high moral code and was simply a good guy. Even after his passing, Ron continued his selflessness by being a tissue donor which will help about 75 people in need.
Ron will be greatly missed by his wife, Barb, their three children Joe Gallagher of Franklin, IN, Amy (Joe Aguayo) Gallagher of Fresno, CA, and Brian (Denise Ante) Gallagher of Elsmere, KY, and three grandchildren Gracie Gallagher and Nico & Juno Aguayo Gallagher. He is preceded in death by his parents Helen & Eugene Gallagher and sister Mary Brune.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 12 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice. If people would like to send flowers, planters vs cut flowers are preferred so they can live on in Ron’s memory. To offer condolences online please visit www.andres-wuestefeldfh.com.
