(Southeastern IN) – Genesis: Pathways is celebrating the successful conclusion of Game On: Esports Camp at Batesville Middle School and Camp Hogwarts at Oldenburg Academy.
Organizers say both camps gave students the opportunity to try something new, make friends, and build new skills throughout the week.
At Game On: Esports Camp held at Batesville Middle School, participants learned the fundamentals of Rocket League, a team-based game that combines strategy, communication, and quick decision-making.
Campers sharpened their skills through drills, practice matches, and friendly competition before taking on one another throughout the week. The camp concluded with a tournament where students teamed up and put everything they learned into action. The tournament highlighted how much each camper had improved while creating an exciting finish to the week.
Hosted by Oldenburg Academy, Camp Hogwarts, Genesis’ largest camp of the summer, welcomed 39 campers for a week of themed games, science activities, friendly competitions, and creative projects inspired by the popular fictional Young Adult series Harry Potter.
Camp commenced with students partaking in the “Sorting Hat Ceremony,” where students were placed into one of four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Houses worked together on collaborative competitions to earn points throughout the week.
Campers explored science and chemistry concepts through a series of themed experiments.
One memorable experiment occurred after measuring hydrogen peroxide, Dawn dish soap, potassium iodide, and other ingredients; students watched the giant “elephant toothpaste” reaction erupt from the top of the volcano while learning why the chemical reaction occurred.
The week concluded with the highly anticipated Quidditch Cup tournament. In Quidditch, the students score goals in two ways: throwing a frisbee into a mini soccer goal, or catching the Golden Snitch—a yellow lacrosse ball. The aim of Quidditch is for students to understand the importance of teamwork, and how each position plays a crucial role. Every house competed with enthusiasm, but after several exciting matches, the championship came down to Slytherin and Hufflepuff.
The game stayed close until the closing moments when Hufflepuff pulled away to win the Quidditch Cup championship. Every team displayed great sportsmanship and made the tournament an exciting way to end the week.
