The Cincinnati Reds rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4 in 10 innings in the series opener in the Windy City as heard last night on WRBI. Cincinnati trailed by three runs heading into the eighth inning but erased the deficit to tie the game and eventually send it into extra innings. Ghost runner Matt McLain scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Elly De La Cruz in the top of the 10th inning. Brock Burke (5-4) got the win in relief. Emilio Pagan notched his 14th save. Nick Lodolo returned to the starting rotation after a month on the Injured List with a blister on his left index finger. He pitched four innings, allowed five hits and four earned runs with five strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Game two of the series is tonight. Rhett Lowder (4-7, 5.26 ERA) goes for Cincinnati. Before last night’s game, the Reds activated Lodolo from the 15-day Injured List; transferred righthanded pitcher Hunter Greene (right elbow soreness) to the 60-day Injured List; called up from Triple-A Louisville infielder Michael Toglia; and optioned to Louisville righthanded pitcher Zach McCambley.
The Indiana Fever knocked off the New York Liberty 106-92 in WNBA action last night in downtown Indianapolis. Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 28 points. Caitlin Clark posted 22 points and 10 assists – her 10th double-double of the season and the 29th of her career. The Fever hosts the Dallas Wings on Friday night.
