Jeffrey T. Grieshop

Jeffrey Thomas Grieshop, age 64, of Batesville, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at his home. Born November 4, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the son of Rita (Nee: Raver) and Thomas Grieshop.

Jeff was a farmer’s farmer. He dedicated his life not only to working the land but, in a true sense, being the land. He knew every inch of his fields and woods, and seemingly, of the history of all the land around him. He could talk endlessly—and expertly—of the glaciers that created the crumpled hills that he farmed. A lover of Native American culture, he could spot an arrowhead from 20 yards away and expertly discuss the tribe that chipped the flint and created the artifact. In recent years, he enjoyed visiting Native American burial sites with his son, Will. A graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute, Jeff could fix anything he touched, from the classic Oldsmobile 442 he lovingly restored to his many tractors and other farm equipment. Anyone who ever worked with him can share a tale of attempting to meet his high work standards, whether it was splitting wood to an exact length or building a model car to showroom quality. He left the world too early as a loving father, grandfather, son, and brother.

Jeff is survived by his daughter, Kim Owens, and son-in-law, Adam Owens, of Noblesville; his son, Will Grieshop, of Batesville; his mother, Rita Giesting, of Batesville; sisters Lisa Struewing, of Batesville, and Sandy Cameron, of Williamston, Michigan; one grandson, Parker Owens; his former wife, Susan Grieshop; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and brother, Timothy Grieshop.

Calling will be Tuesday, March 10, from 4-7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Oldenburg, with Rev. Carl Langenderfer officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Franklin County Humane Society or the Holy Family Capital Improvement Fund.
