Farmers Feeding the Flock celebration dinner scheduled for October 28

Decatur County, IN — The Farmers Feeding the Flock 25-acre soybean field used raise funds for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life has been harvested, and a celebration is planned.

The field provided by Shirk Family Farms in northern Decatur County was planted on May 19 and harvested on October 9.

Organizer Merrill Smith thanked the Shirk family for providing the field used in this year’s Farmers Feeding the Flock fundraiser.

“The Shirk family members are Sam and his wife Shannon and daughter Eleanor Shirk; Roland and Donna Shirk, who are Sam’s parents, and Linda Volk, who is Roland’s sister,” Smith said.

The soybean field yielded 73 bushels per acre with a low moisture average of eight percent.

The annual celebration dinner will be held Friday, October 28 in the Greensburg High School Ag Building.

The event will feature the announcement of the final fundraiser tally, the meal, a video, and guest speaker, Dr. Larry Rueff, who will talk about the size of American agriculture and its impact on the world.

Doors open at 5:30 pm, with dinner served at 6.
