DNR proposes change to nuisance animal policy

Indinaapolis, In. — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is proposing a change to an administrative rule that would require animal control officers and pest control professionals to euthanize raccoons, opossums and coyotes. Currently catch and release procedures are governed by a host of rules and regulations.

Officials say the change is proposed in order to prevent nuisance problems and the spread of disease.

DNR officials provided this document regarding 2015-16 Administrative Rule Ideas.

The proposed change is raising concerns from animal rights advocates.
