GREENSBURG, IN — Several hundred community members turned out Saturday afternoon for Decatur County Memorial Hospital’s 100th Anniversary Celebration and Open House.

“It’s really a celebration of serving the community and a celebration of how our community has supported Decatur County Memorial Hospital most recently but also the last 100 years,” said DCMH President and CEO Rex McKinney.

A group of citizens demanded a hospital to serve the Greensburg/Decatur County area in the aftermath of World War I, and Decatur County Memorial Hospital opened its doors on February 4, 1922.

DCMH will build on its legacy when it breaks ground in July on a 24,000 square-foot rehabilitation and medical office building on the north end of the hospital campus on Lincoln Street.

In addition, DCMH plans to open a 3,000-square-foot space this summer at the Decatur County Family YMCA, which will be used for health and wellness education and activities.

McKinney used the occasion to express his thanks to Greensburg, Decatur County, and all of Southeastern Indiana.

“Our success at Decatur County Memorial Hospital is rooted in community support, and our team members providing great quality care and safe care,” McKinney said. “It’s just a pleasure to serve as President and lead a fantastic team known for the compassionate care we provide to our community.”

In addition to McKinney, speakers during Saturday’s special presentation included Decatur County Commissioner Mark Koors; Greensburg Mayor Joshua Marsh; Hospital Board President Larry Rueff; Dr. Mary McCullough, who is the longest-tenured physician at DCMH; Hospital Foundation Board member Cleo Duncan, and Dennis Fogle with DCMH Community Relations.

Mayor Marsh presented a Key to the City of Greensburg to McKinney on behalf of the hospital to mark DCMH’s centennial.

It was the first Key to the City presented during the Marsh Administration.

The event also featured live music by the Rusty Bladen Band plus refreshments.
