The Washington Nationals edged the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 in the series lid lifter in our nation’s capitol heard last night on WRBI. The loss snaps the Reds four-game winning streak. Harry Ford hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning off Julian Garcia that snapped a 3-3 tie, and the Nationals held on the for the win. The Reds runs came on solo home runs from Eugenio Suarez, Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz. McLain and De La Cruz went back-to-back in the top of the third. Game two of the series is tonight. Chase Burns (13-1, 2.35) starts for the Reds. He’ll be opposed by Nats lefty Andrew Alvarez (2-3, 3.94 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:15 on 103.9 FM.
Reds pitcher Hunter Greene will undergo surgery to repair a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The type and extent of the procedure Greene will need isn’t known. The surgery will take place sometime next week. Greene is done for this season, and his status for 2027 could also be affected.
The NFL has suspended Indianapolis Colts cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt for one game for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He’ll miss the regular season opener against Baltimore on Sept. 13 but is still eligible for training camp and preseason games. Taylor-Britt pled guilty to reckless driving and driving without a valid license in January following a pair of traffic stops that took place while he was playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. Taylor-Britt signed with the Colts as a free agent this offseason.
