The Batesville Bulldog track and field team went to Sectional competition last night at East Central with one goal in mind…defend that Sectional Championship title and they performed just that way! I am so proud of these boys! All year they have set
goals and performed above and beyond expectations! The Bulldogs captured the Sectional Championship, making this the 3rd year in a row, by over 30 points and 13 of the 16 events will be represented at Regional competition next week!
Top teams scores in the 12 team Sectional were: Batesville: 131, East Central: 99, Franklin County: 77, Lawrenceburg: 61 and Oldenburg Academy: 60.
Batesville also had 4 individuals in 5 events claim individaual sectional championship titles…Garrett Wagner in both the 110m hurdles(15.3) and 300m hurdles(39.81), John Moody in the 200m dash(23.08) and 400m dash(50.78), and the 4 x 400m relay of Garrett Wagner, Connor Bell, Ian Yorn and John Moody(3:30.94).
Others advancing on to Regionals were: Sectional runner up-800m run: Connor Bell; 1600m run: Caleb Moster; 4 x 800m relay of: Caleb Moster, Michael Ripperger, Quinten Gowdy and Connor Bell; and 4 x 100m relay of: Garrett Wagner, Jacob Koehne, CJ Thomas and Zach Mears and 3rd place finishers which include-Caleb Moster- 3200m run; Adam Bedel-High Jump; John Moody-Long Jump; and Nathan Bedel-Pole Vault.
Just missing out on Regional qualifying and placing 4th were: Zach Mears-100m dash and Quinten Gowdy-800m run. Scoring in 5th place: Ian Yorn-400m dash; Henry Lipinski-300m hurdles; and Robert Strobel-pole vault. 8th place finishers were:
Nathan Bedel-110m hurdles; Michael Ripperger-1600m run; and John Gerstbauer- long jump.
Batesville would also like to extend a congratulations to Oldenburg Academy’s Curt Eckstein for breaking the Sectional record in the 3200m run flying at 9:28.16, passing a Batesville graduate, Rob Grote’s time in 2003 of 9:31.71 and to East Central’s,
Mark Bertke, for breaking the pole vault Sectional record of 14’0, clearing 14’1″.
The Bulldogs’ performance last night, with much excitement, also produced many personal bests and they were: John Moody-long jump and 400m dash; Caleb Moster-1600m run and 3200m run; Quinten Gowdy-800m run; Henry Lipinski- 300m hurdles; Ian Yorn-400m dash; Garrett Wagner-110m hurdles; Adam Bedel- high jump; Connor Bell-4 x 400m split; and 4 x 100m relay-Garrett Wagner, Jacob Koehne, CJ Thomas, Zach Mears.
