Franklin County Burn Ban Expires

(Franklin County, IN) – A significant amount of rain over the past few days means the burn ban in Franklin County has expired.

County commissioners issued the order last week because of continued dry conditions.

A burn ban is a restriction set by county officials that prohibits or limits open burning, campfires, or the use of fireworks.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says these measures help reduce the risk of wildfires and keep communities safe.

(Franklin County, IN) – Continued dry conditions have prompted Franklin County Commissioners to issue a countywide burn ban until further notice.

Commissioners declared the burn ban based on the recommendations of area fire chiefs as well as data from the U.S. Drought Monitor and the National Weather Service.

In their declaration, commissioners say the county is at risk of widespread fire hazards due to being in a moderate drought with little chance of relief in the coming days.
