Mr. Gilbert L. Armstrong Jr., age 78, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on January 11, 1948 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was the loving son of the late Gilbert L. Armstrong, Sr. and Hazel (Jackson) Armstrong. Gilbert was inducted into the United States Army on January 31, 1966 in Providence, Rhode Island. He received the National Defense Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was transferred to the reserves on January 30, 1969 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on January 30, 1972. Gilbert was united in marriage on November 15, 2002 to Wauneta Grace Cline in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gilbert owned and operated Armstrong Pool & Spas in Bloomington, Indiana, for the past 20 years. He was also a former manager in food and beverage in California for 15 years. Gilbert had resided in the Switzerland County community since 2002. Gilbert had a strong work ethic and took great pride in his work. He cherished life on the farm, where he found joy in tending to his land and caring for the animals he loved. Gilbert passed away at 3:50 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.
Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Wauneta Grace (Cline) Armstrong of Vevay, IN; his sons and daughters, Adrian Armstrong of Vevay, IN, Gilbert Bechtel and his wife, Erin of El Mirage, AZ, Gilbert Armstrong III. and his wife, Nicole of Mesa, AZ, James Powlan of El Paso, TX, Nicole McAlister of Vevay, IN, Isiah Tatum and his wife, Katie of Noblesville, IN, Stori Roy and her husband, Tyler of Franklin, IN, and Sean Tatum and his wife, Kylie of Indianapolis, IN; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Randy Armstrong and his wife, Jenny of Ellettsville, IN; his sister, Jane Collins and her husband, Barry of Bedford, IN; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert L. Armstrong Sr.; his mother, Hazel (Jackson) Armstrong; his daughter, Carrie; his son-in-law, Christopher “CJ” McAlister; his brother, Roger Armstrong; and his sisters, Kay Armstrong and Debbie Armstrong.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2026, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana.
