The Reds closed out the so-called first half of the season with an 8-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs, who take the rubber match of their three-game series in downtown Cincinnati in a tilt heard yesterday on WRBI.  Alex Bregman’s three-run homer was the highlight of the Cubs’ four-run 7th inning. Eugenio Suarez belted a two-run homer in the 3rd that gave the Reds the lead until the Cubs tied the game with two in the 4th. The Reds are off for the next four days for the All-Star break. They’ll be back in action on Friday at Colorado.

The Reds have placed lefthanded starter Nick Lodolo on the 15-day Injured List with a blister on his left index finger. Lodolo came out of Saturday’s night game against the Cubs after the latest blister developed on his pitching hand. His roster spot was taken by righthanded pitcher Chase Petty, who was recalled from Triple-A Louisville.

The Indiana Fever closed their West Coast road trip with a dominant 109-75 win over the Las Vegas Aces last night.  Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 27 points; Sophie Cunningham came off the bench and added 20, and Aliyah Boston poured in 19. Indiana begins a four-game homestand Wednesday night against Golden State.

Indiana Pacers Summer League play continues this afternoon against the Brooklyn Nets. Tipoff in Las Vegas is at 4:30. The Pacers are 1-1 after Saturday’s 100-93 overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
