Mary Fehring

Mary Carole (Chouteau) Fehring, 79, of Dover, Indiana, passed away peacefully the morning of July 14, 2026, just days shy of her 80th birthday. Born on July 21, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary grew up in North College Hill and was a member of the first graduating class of McAuley High School. She was a cherished wife, selfless mother, and kind soul whose love and generosity touched countless lives.

Mary met Bill in 1981 through a group at St. Margaret Mary Church, and the two were married in 1989. Sharing a dream of leaving the city behind, they moved to Dover in 2003, where they found the peace and quiet they had long hoped for in their small-town home.

After joining St. John’s Catholic Church, Mary became actively involved with the Ladies Sodality. Her love of crocheting naturally led her to the parish prayer shawl ministry, where she combined her talent with her compassionate heart to comfort others. Mary always found the most beautiful yarn, and her daughters often laughed that she could—and probably did—crochet in her sleep. Even as her health declined, her passion for crocheting never wavered. She continued making prayer shawls from home, knowing they would bring comfort to those in need. Her legacy of generosity will live on through the yarn and supplies she lovingly collected, which will be passed on to the prayer shawl group so they can continue their ministry while crocheting a little piece of Mary into every future project.

Mary and Bill shared a love of camping and traveling. They especially enjoyed taking cruises, exploring the western United States, and spending nearly eight winters as snowbirds in Florida. Mary’s love for her family was woven into every stitch she made. She ensured that each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren received a handmade afghan. Always thinking ahead, she even crocheted afghans for future great-grandchildren, creating lasting gifts of love that will continue to bless her family for years to come.

Mary will be deeply missed by Bill, her loving husband of nearly 37 years; her children, Brenda (Chris) Faucett, Kimberly (Roger) Miller, Paul (Sherry) Fehring, Steven (Regie De La Cruz) Fehring and Michael Fehring; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with four more on the way; and her siblings, Dale Chouteau and Linda Chouteau. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Margaret Chouteau, and her siblings, Margo Liebert and Herbert Chouteau.

Mary’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and generous heart will forever be remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Mary will be held on Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. at St. John’s Campus of All Saints Parish. A private burial will take place at a later date. For those unable to attend, the Mass will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/user/aspweeklyhomily.

Memorial donations in Mary’s honor may be made to the All Saints Parish Ladies Sodality or Margaret Mary Hospice. Donations will be accepted prior to Mass or may be mailed to the funeral home. Family and friends are encouraged to leave online condolences at www.andres-wuestefeldfh.com.
