(Indianapolis, IN) – IndyCar is considering creating an independent governing body following this week’s Team Penske cheating scandal stemming from Indianapolis 500 qualifying.
The governing body would not include any of racing team owner Roger Penske employees.
Two Penske cars, driven by two-time defending Indy 500 champion Josef Newgarden and 2018 winner Will Power, were moved to the back of the Indy 500 field after their cars failed inspection during last Sunday’s qualifying.
Competitors have alleged Penske cars get preferential treatment.
Penske bought the IndyCar series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2019.
Conflict of interest concerns were initially raised at the time.
Meanwhile, you can hear Sunday’s running of the 109th Indy 500 on WRBI. Coverage begins at 11:30 a.m.
