Statewide—According to the National Weather Service, several rounds of rain are expected Friday through Saturday. Heavy rain up to 2 to 3 inches will be possible, especially on Saturday, which could cause areal and river flooding. There is currently an areal flooding watch out for central and western Indiana. There are no watches or warnings in the southeastern Indiana region as of yet.
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will also be possible during the day on Saturday. A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms is expected Saturday evening. This line is expected to bring the potential for some stronger wind gusts. Damaging wind will be possible with this line. After the passage of the line, there will also be the potential for additional wind gusts in excess of 40 mph Saturday night.
To get ready, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is asking Hoosiers to help prevent ponding and flooding by clearing storm drains before the rain hits Thursday night. “Now is the time to clear them of any debris before the heavy rainfall moves in this weekend! Debris on or near these drains can be a major contributor to flooding,” said IDHS in a Facebook post.
