Ms. Martha Emma “Marti” (Surber) Lovelace

Ms. Martha Emma (Surber) Lovelace, age 75, of Vevay, Indiana, completed her earthly race and stepped into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Born March 14, 1951, in Shelbyville, Indiana, Marti, as she was known to family and friends, was the daughter of Glenn Joseph and Geraldine Edna (Bosaw) Surber. Marti lost both of her parents at a young age but was lovingly raised by her maternal aunt, Christina (Bosaw) White, whom she proudly called “Mom.” Upon graduating from Avondale High School in 1969, Marti pursued her lifelong love of horses by joining the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club, where she worked as a groomer. She fulfilled her childhood dream of learning to ride, becoming skilled in both English and Western styles. She cherished her experiences with racehorses and took great joy in sharing those stories-especially when one of her grandsons developed the same passion. In 1972, Marti married Willis Lovelace. She embraced military life for 17 years, during which she held various jobs while raising their family of three children. Their lives were forever changed by the heartbreaking loss of their young son, Matthew, in 1994. Marti will be remembered as a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose love knew no bounds. She consistently placed the happiness of her children and grandchildren above her own, and her unwavering love, support, and thoughtfulness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Marti is survived by her loving daughters, Jaime (Eric) Taylor and Erin (Warren) Harrington; her grandchildren, Scott, Jordan, Travis, and Liam Taylor, and Addyson, Alexander, and Catherine Harrington; her former husband, Willis Lovelace; her brother, Herman Surber; her brother-in-law, Ollie Harlow; and her many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Joseph and Geraldine Edna (Bosaw) Surber; her aunt that raised her, Christina (Bosaw) White; her son, Matthew Ray “Squeaky” Lovelace, died November 16, 1994; her brothers, Raymond Lee Surber and Roy Chester Surber; and her sister, Harriett Harlow.
