Payments to continue despite court ruling allowing state to withdraw from federal pandemic unemployment program

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The State of Indiana will continue paying $300 in weekly federal unemployment payments, despite a court ruling Tuesday that Governor Eric Holcomb had the authority to withdraw from the program.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has announced that the payments will continue because the state must give a 30-day notice that they will end, which extends past the scheduled September 6 end of the federal pandemic unemployment program.

Gov. Holcomb decided to withdraw the state from the program effective June 19, but a judge in Marion County ruled that Indiana law does not allow him to do that.

The Indiana Court of Appeals overturned the Marion County judge’s ruling on Tuesday.
