Walter Lee Davis, 77, Milan

       Walter Lee Davis, 77, of Milan passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home. Walter was born on Thursday, August 15, 1946, in Milan; son of Ernie A. Davis and Wauneta (Pemberton) Hastings. Walter served in the United States Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam. He served in the Special Security Detachment where he trained and graduated from the U.S. Army Ranger School. Walter married the love of his life, Lynne (Cole) Davis, on August 26, 1972, and she survives him. Walter was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church and the Milan American Legion Post #235. He worked at Seagrams, then from 1983-1986 he owned and operated Lewis Lawn and Garden in Milan, and he worked at Cigna Insurance as a loss control representative where he retired in 1999. Walter loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going mushroom hunting, and gardening. He also enjoyed traveling and listening to oldies. Walter most of all cherished spending time with his loving family and friends, and always looked forward to hosting family gatherings at his home.

Walter will be missed by his wife, Lynne Davis of Milan; brother Durwood “Toby” Hunter of Batesville; sisters-in-law Pauletta (Clayton) Brewer of Indianapolis and Jan Davis of Milan; brother-in-law Jerry (Quenlin) Lewis of Cincinnati; cousin Jim (Marcia) Davis of Versailles; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents Ernie Davis and Wauneta Hastings and brothers Timothy Tarbutton and Ernie Davis Sr.

Family and friends may gather in remembering Walter from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the Milan First Baptist Church; 112 S. Main St., Milan, IN 47031, with Pastor Harris Long officiating. Burial will follow at New Cravens Cemetery with military rites provided by the Milan American Legion Post #235. Memorials may be given in honor of Walter to the Milan American Legion Post #235 or Milan First Baptist Church.
