New names are surfacing along the campaign trail for offices that were previously uncontested in Franklin County.
The primary election was held in May but the deadline to fill a vacancy for the general election, such as the Democratic or Republican Party ticket, is next week.
Republican Keith Hall would have ran unopposed for the District 2 County Council seat in the fall until two recently submitted their candidacy.
District 2 consists of Highland, Whitewater, Springfield and Bath townships.
According to the Franklin County Observer, Steve Haas of Highland Township has been appointed by the Democratic Party as their candidate. Current County Commissioner Scott McDonough has also filed to run as an Independent for the council seat.
New additions to other races:
Franklin County Clerk Karla Bauman (R) was previously uncontested until the Democratic Party endorsed Jordan Spurlock.
Incumbent Sheriff Ken Murphy (R) will be opposed by Laurel Police Chief Brad Spurlock (D) for office.
District 1 County Councilman Joe Sizemore (R) will now be challenged by Democrat Gary Baker for the seat.
