Mary J. Carmichael, 87, of North Vernon, passed from this life at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mrs. Carmichael was born August 16, 1936, in Seymour, Indiana, the daughter of Clarence H. and Selma M. Hallow Kretzer.
Mary married Don E. Carmichael on July 21, 1956. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Shields High School. She was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in North Vernon and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed camping with family and friends and traveling to Scotland. She retired from Hill-Rom Industries after 27 years of service. Survivors include her husband of 68 years; children, Kathy (Jeff) Shadday of Brownsburg and Timothy (Sheila) Carmichael of North Vernon; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Sullivan of Seymour and Vera Schafer of North Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Beth Colgan; and brothers, Walter Kretzer and Don R. Kretzer.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in North Vernon with Pastor Joshua Haugen officiating. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Christiansburg Cemetery in Brown County. Memorial contributions may be made to Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
