INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A local county health officer has been appointed to the Governor’s Public Health Commission.
Dr. David Welsh is one of 12 members tapped to serve on the commission, which was established last month by Governor Eric Holcomb to study Indiana’s public health system and make recommendations for improvement. Dr. Welsh currently serves as the health officer in both Ripley and Franklin counties.
In addition to public health professionals, the appointees include elected officials and other key stakeholders from across the state.
Madison Mayor Bob Courtney was also named to the panel.
The commission is being co-chaired by former State Senator Luke Kenley and former State Health Commissioner Dr. Judy Monroe. Current State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box will serve as Secretary.
The commission’s inaugural meeting will be held from 1 to 3 pm on Thursday, September 16, in Conference Room C at the Indiana Government Center South, 302 W. Washington Street in Indianapolis. Proceedings will be live-streamed and available online at https://www.youtube.com/c/
