Lady Pirate kickers score first, but Shiners score the win

The Lady Pirates girls soccer team hosted Rising Sun for their first home match of the season.  Greensburg scored first, but the visiting Shiners prevailed 3-1.

Just like with the season opener, the Pirates struck quickly. Junior captain Macey Smith settled an assist in the net during the first six minutes from fellow junior captain Emilee Ernstes. The Shiners took over from there and led 3-1 at the half.

In the second half, the Pirates took a combined 12 shots on goal, one being a PK, but were unable to catch Rising Sun which retained the 3-1 lead at the final buzzer.

Senior captain Keeper Ella Lowe kept 15 of the Shiners shots from making it on the scoreboard. Even with the final score and the shot count on Lowe, the starting defense did pretty well against a fast front of Rising Sun. This game’s defensive line starters were senior Emily Million, senior Scotlynn Reinhold, senior Lillian Wheatley and freshman Genevieve Smith.

We thank Greensburg coach Ryan Morlan for this edited recap.
