INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Jac-Cen-Del High School junior Tracy McKittrick (pictured) is one of two Indiana students named a 2022 US Senate Youth Program (USSYP) delegate.

Mc Kittrick has earned a $10,000 Hearst Foundation Scholarship and the opportunity to engage with USSYP delegates from the other 49 states, the District of Columbia, and others in a virtual week-long learning opportunity focused on all facets of government March 5 through 10.

The USSYP’s goal is to immerse students in the American political process, gain leadership skills, and better understand public service.

This year 57 students applied for the program through the Indiana Bar Foundation.

Students were required to complete an application, create a resume, write an essay, and submit a letter of recommendation from their principal.

Ten students were selected as finalists and were required to take an exam covering government, public affairs, and history, write a second essay, and complete an interview.

Indiana’s other delegate is Nathan Mock, who is a senior at South Vermillion High School in Clinton.

“Tracy and Nathan are outstanding ambassadors for Indiana, and we are proud to have them representing our state, and their school communities,” said Foundation President and CEO Charles Dunlap.

McKittrick is the Student Council Vice President at Jac-Cen-Del, National Honor Society Treasurer, and editor-in-chief of the journalism club. She is on the English and social studies academic teams and is captain of the school’s golf team. McKittrick has also served as a Page for the Indiana House and Senate.

She plans to attend Indiana University, majoring in journalism and finance, and attending law school.

Tracy is the daughter of Lisa McKittrick of Batesville.
