Holcomb signs bill banning gender affirming care for transgender minors; ACLU sues

Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-IN)

(Indianapolis, IN) — A bill banning gender-affirming care for transgender Indiana residents under 18 is now law after Gov. Eric Holcomb signed the measure on Wednesday.

Senate Bill 480 prohibits minors from having access to hormone therapies, puberty blockers, and gender-affirming surgeries.

The governor said in a statement that permanent gender-changing surgeries and medically prescribed preparation for a transition should take place as an adult.

The ACLU of Indiana filed a lawsuit challenging the new law shortly after Holcomb announced he was signing the measure.

The Governor signed 11 other bills on Wednesday.
