Gary Richard (Dick) Merrell, age 72, of Mt. Carmel, Indiana died Monday, May 23, 2016 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio.
Born July 21, 1943 in Mt. Carmel, Indiana he was the son of the late Russell S. & Hazel Ruth (Sintz) Merrell. On November 14, 1964 he and the former Vivian A. McQueen were united in marriage and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2010.
Dick was the Owner/Operator of Merrell Grain Company in Mt Carmel, Indiana for many years. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, the Harmony Masonic Lodge #11 F. & A.M., as well as the Scottish Rite.
A true people person, he never met a stranger, and enjoyed time spent just visiting with old friends and making new ones. In his leisure time he enjoyed tinkering and shining on his Peterbilt, and was known to always have a clean truck. He also enjoyed taking rides and listening to country music, with Willie Nelsons, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” being one of his favorite tunes.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marni (Martin) Finder of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; a son, Chad Merrell of Mt. Carmel, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ramsey, Luke, Quinn and Max; one sister, Brenda Williams of West Harrison, Indiana; two brothers, David (Jane) Merrell of Brookville, Indiana and James (Bonnie) Merrell of Mt. Carmel, Indiana.
Family & friends may visit from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, 4011 State Road 252, Mt. Carmel, Indiana.
Pastor Andy Zinsmeister will officiate the Funeral Services at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church. Burial will then follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
