Gene Cooney has stepped down as Batesville High School varsity softball coach. Cooney’s resignation was accepted at Wednesday’s Batesville school board meeting. The board also accepted Tyler Burcham’s previously announced resignation as varsity baseball coach.

The Reds open a three-game series tonight in the Bronx against the New York Yankees. Rhett Lowder makes the start for Cincinnati. He’s 3-3 with a 4.60 ERA. Coverage begins at 6:35 on 103.9 FM.

The Reds made a flurry of roster moves on Thursday. They placed pitcher Hunter Greene on a rehab assignment at the Arizona Complex; placed righthanded pitcher Pierce Johnson on rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville; selected and optioned to Louisville catcher Will Banfield; sent outright to Triple-A catcher P.J. Higgins, who accepted the assignment and will report to Louisville. The Reds 40-man roster stands at 39.

The Atlanta Dream topped the Indiana Fever 108-101 in WNBA action last night in downtown Indianapolis. Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 26 points apiece. Aliyah Boston added 23. Angel Reese recorded a double double for the Dream: 21 points and 11 rebounds. The loss snaps the Fever’s four game winning streak. They’re now 9-6 on the year. The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon in Atlanta.
