Indianapolis, In. — Republican state representative from Greensburg, Randy Frye received the Legislator of the Year Award on Tuesday from the Indiana Broadband and Technology Association for his continued work modernizing telecommunications and broadband in Indiana.

The Indiana Broadband and Technology Association, which is a non-profit trade association representing the broadband and technology industry, works to promote telecom reform and keep Indiana up-to-date on ever-changing technology and communication methods.

“Hoosiers need access to dependable, high-speed service in order to take part in the modern world,” Frye said. “We are passing legislation bringing all communities into the 21st century and keeping us at the forefront of telecom innovation. These policies create jobs and give choices to Hoosiers, particularly in rural communities.”

Frye, who serves on the House Committee on Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications, supported legislation this session expanding broadband internet access to rural communities. He said this new law raises the definition of high-speed internet service to 10 megabits per second and revamps a pre-existing state grant program to encourage the deployment of broadband to underserved regions of the state.
