At Jennings County, Jac-Cen-Del senior Wyatt Day went over 1000 points in his varsity boys basketball career. Day needed 18. He finished the night with 19. Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ended for the Eagles during a game heard on WRBI.
Jac-Cen-Del coach Clint Bohman wanted games against big schools to challenge his Eagles this season. He certainly got that in North Vernon against a multi-dimensional, multi-talented Panther team which defeated the Osgood guys 81-56.
Seeing JenCo play in person was almost like watching poetry in motion. Are they perfect? No. They make mistakes like any team in any sport. But do they have a weakness? Try to find one and get back to me.
The Panthers can hammer inside, they can bomb from outside, they pass so well, are exceptional on the break and can defend. They have height, they have muscle and they have speed. Case closed.
It was 29-9 after the first quarter, 55-30 at the half and 75-43 at the end of the third.
The Panthers Owen Law hit four of his team’s 12 buckets from the arc and finished with 20 points. Carter Kent, just a freshman, nailed a trio of triples and scored 13. Big 6’8” senior forward Jacob Vogel even hit from deep once and also collected 13. Lane Zohrlaut added 10.
After Day’s 19 for JCD, Caleb Simon put in 10 while Nathan Hoffman and Justin Swinney had eight each.
The Panthers made 12 of 25, three-point baskets and hit 51 percent overall from the floor (31/61). At one point, the Eagles were just 1 of 13 from distance but hit a few late to tally 8 of 29. Overall, Jac connected on 42 percent from the field (22/53). Jennings County had a substantial advantage in rebounds, especially in the first half. The final spread was 38-21.
Jennings County also won the JV game 72-51. Leading scorers for the Eagle reserves: Seth Drockelman 12, Brady Comer 9, Brady Borgman 8 and Corbin White 8.
We thank Jennings County AD Corey Stevens for the accommodations and hospitality and Jac-Cen-Del coach Clint Bohman for his information and time in our pregame show.
