VERSAILLES, IN — Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) has launched a campaign to develop more space for music and entertainment in Versailles.

If the crowdfunding campaign led by Versailles Main Street reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by July 10, the project will receive a matching grant as part of IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.

“This pavilion will bring together students, artists, and residents of Versailles,” Crouch said. “Projects like this are the heart of the CreatINg Places program, engaging and activating communities to enhance Indiana neighborhoods.”

Funds from this campaign will be used to develop a downtown pocket park into a community gathering space with the addition of a stage for local performances. This project will also honor local music and arts educators, Gary and Patsy Holdsworth.

“Mr. and Mrs. Holdsworth dedicated their lives to music, the arts, and this community, and so it seems fitting that we honor them with this pavilion,” Holly Wehr, President of Versailles Main Street and Director of Community Development for the Town of Versailles. “We’re excited to keep the legacy of their love of music alive in this community.”

Mrs. Holdsworth passed away in 2019 at the age of 74.

The CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $6.2 million in public funds and an additional $5.2 million in matching IHCDA funds. CreatINg Places has funded more than 150 projects in 58 counties and has a 96% success rate.

The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
