Versailles, IN – The Batesville 7th grade basketball team kicked off their 2024 campaign on Saturday, bringing home the hardware at the South Ripley Tournament.
In the first round, the Bulldogs faced off against familiar foe, the Greensburg Pirates. Batesville started the game hot, going on a 13-0 run in the first quarter and not giving up a basket until the second quarter. Leading the way for the Bulldogs were Clayton Kaiser and Logan Schinder both with 12 pts. Following them on the offensive end were Jasper Johnson with 8, Nolan Gessell with 6 pts, and Noah Bastin, Herny Candelot, Drake Holman, Caden Hautman, George Jelinek, each adding 2 points. Abram Powner rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
In the championship game versus South Ripley, Batesville encountered a much tougher challenge. Following a sluggish start, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing at half, 26-17. However, the Bulldogs quickly flipped the script and the score, securing a 47-30 win. Logan Schinder led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Nolan Gesell with 8, Johan Heil and Jasper Johnson with 6 each, Clayton Kaiser and Abram Powner with 4 each, and Caden Hautman contributing 2 points.
The Bulldogs will look to continue their winning momentum as they travel to South Dearborn for the 1st Annual Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, November 9th, with their first game scheduled for 10:50 AM.
