Eugene “Gene” Knox Snively, age 94, of Osgood passed away on January 1, 2020 at Margaret Mary Hospital. Gene was born on October 11, 1926 the son of James and Ruth (Knox) Snively in Amsterdam, Ohio.
Gene had many titles during his life from dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, husband, brother, father-in-law, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, farmer, carpenter, teller of jokes, story teller from his childhood, chef in the Army stationed stateside during World War II, maker of miniatures using cardboard and other common household items, he embraced them all.
On July 11, 1947 he married Loraine and they remained by each other’s side until the very end, celebrating their 73 anniversary this past summer.
The first several years of their marriage were spent milking cows and farming outside of Kensington, Ohio. Gene also drove a bus for the local school district. Gene then took a position with Eaton International and they packed up and moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. They lived in Colorado until the late 80’s then moved to southern Indiana.
Gene was a founding member of the tractor pulls held in East Rochester, Ohio beginning in the mid 60’s and Loraine and Gene were 4-H leaders as well. Gene is a member of the Versailles American Legion Post and the Mud Pike Baptist Church. Gene never met a stranger and was truly one of the kindest spoken individuals you would ever come across. In these later years Macular Degeneration took his sight, but as long as he could remember in his mind’s eye, his fingers could feel it into existence.
Gene is survived by wife Loraine, daughters Yvonne (Al) Page of Shelbyville and Cheryl (Dave) Ross of Shelbyville, brothers Richard (Teresa) Snively of Arkansas and James (Bonnie) Snively of East Rochester, Ohio, sister Arlene Newell of Ashtabula, Ohio, grandchildren: Shannon (Darin) Fogle, Dustin (Amber) Ogden, Emily (Ken) McNeely and Gabe Ross, great grandchildren: Kaysie Fogle, Molly Fogle, Arya McNeely, Blayze Ogden, and Tylir McNenney. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Alvin Snively.
Funeral services will take place at a future date, with burial at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Online condolences can be placed at Nealsfuneralhome.net
