Ronald J. Obermeyer, age 70 of Oldenburg, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born February 7, 1947 in Batesville, he is the son of Opal (Nee: Collins) and Bernard Obermeyer. He married Darlene Pulskamp November 21, 1970 at St. Mary’s of the Rock Church. Ron served in the National Guard from 1970 until 1976. He was an Engineer and Director at Hill-Rom Architectural Products for 36 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of Holy Family Church, the Knights of St. John Oldenburg Commandery #220, the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, Eagles Club Aerie #1130 and a former member of the Eagle Fire Company.
Ron had several passions, but the most important of them was his family. He was proud of his six children and dearly loved his grandchildren. Music was also an important part of his life, starting with the band The Steppin’ Stones as a teenager and the group Now and Then for the last 30 plus years as a guitarist. An outdoorsman, Ron loved hunting and fishing and always looked forward to annual fishing trips with his buddies. Patience, kindness, musical and artistic talents, and the importance of family are all attributes Ron passed on to his family.
Ron’s family described him as “laid back” and a “quiet listener with great advice and a quick wit.” He was a dedicated IU basketball and Cincinnati Bengals fan. He and Darlene traveled quite a bit in recent years, with trips to Alaska and Orange Beach, Alabama among his favorites. A car guy, Ron loved his GTO and was on an episode of the cable program “What’s My Car Worth?”
He is survived by his wife Darlene; daughters Lisa (Ron) Fitzpatrick of Batesville, Lori (Scott) Bauer of Batesville, Sara (Josh Novellino) Obermeyer of Terre Haute, Indiana; sons Ryan (Debbie) Obermeyer, Mark (Jennifer) Obermeyer, Todd (Maria) Obermeyer, all of Batesville; sister Geraldine Slone of Greenfield, Indiana; brothers Charles Davidson of Highland Heights, Kentucky, Donald Obermeyer of Batesville; grandchildren Carly and Owen Fitzpatrick, Anna, Ellen and Kate Bauer, Evan (Rebecca) Bohlke, Jackson and Liam Obermeyer and great grandchild Theodore Bohlke. He was preceded in death by his infant son Jeffrey and his parents.
Visitation is Thursday, June 15th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, June 16th at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183.
