Richard E. Koors, 73, Greensburg

Richard E. (for Excellence) “Rick” Koors, age 73, of Greensburg Indiana, passed away July 9, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Born March 22, 1953, in Greensburg, Rick was the son of the late Alvin B. Koors and Mildred M. (Hahn) Koors.

A proud 1972 graduate of Greensburg High School, Rick excelled in football, wrestling, and track. He and his wife Cheryl frequently hosted memorable Class of ’72 reunion gatherings at their home over the years.

On August 17, 1974, Rick married the love of his life, Cheryl A. Riley. They shared 48 beautiful years together until her passing on October 15, 2022. Their marriage was a true partnership filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures.

Rick began his career at American Lifts in 1972, where he worked until the company’s closing and served as treasurer of his local union. He later assisted his brother Jeff with farming operations and worked at Hahn Grain Handling.

In his younger years, Rick played on local softball teams and bowled competitively. He and Cheryl traveled extensively to tournaments, creating stories that are still told today. Rick also enjoyed playing Euchre with family and friends, coaching his sons’ baseball teams (where fun always mattered more than the final score), and donning the red suit each Christmas as Santa for family and friends. In later years, he remained a faithful supporter at baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, archery ranges, and basketball courts, cheering loudly for his grandsons, nieces, and nephews.

A familiar face at Pop’s Diner, Rick was there so early each morning that the staff offered him a key. He followed breakfast with his daily walks at Walmart—though visiting and socializing with friends often took priority over the actual walking.

Strong in his Catholic faith, Rick was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an active Knight of Columbus. He and Cheryl rarely missed a Friday or Saturday night at the KofC, where they enjoyed dancing and supporting the club’s many events. Rick proudly led the “Koors Chicken Committee,” frying what many called the world’s best chicken for countless club functions, family gatherings, and community events. He only stepped down from this role last year after carefully training his grandson Hunter to carry on the tradition.

Rick is survived by his sons, Bryan R. Koors and Jason T. (Mary) Koors, both of Greensburg; grandsons Hunter Koors, Bryce Koors, Kody (Julia Ankney) Newhart, and Grayson Newhart; siblings Sister Joanita (Doris) Koors of Oldenburg, Jerry (Angel) Koors of Greensburg, Debbie (Steve) Weston of Greensburg, Jeff (Faith) Koors of Greensburg, and Becky Koors of Indianapolis; brother-in-law Steve Riley of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Marcia Koors of New York; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and his extended KofC family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Cheryl; siblings Tom (Phyllis) Koors and Herb Koors; nephew Doug Koors and brother and sister-in-law Mike and Darlene Riley.

Family and friends will gather to pray the Rosary, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Visitation will follow from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg.
