John Allgeier

John Michael Allgeier, 68 years old, of Dover, IN unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. A 1974 graduate of Elder High School, John went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Agronomy at Ohio State University. For more than 30 years, John worked as a golf course superintendent before he decided to start his own business, Superior Turf Solutions, in 2013. Many people across the community enjoyed John’s labor of love without even knowing it. He seeded, fertilized, aerated, and cultivated beautiful acres of grass at athletic fields, parks, businesses, and homes across the tri-state. In addition to owning his own business, John also drove a school bus for the last 10+ years for the Sunman Dearborn School Corporation. He loved his job as a bus driver and enjoyed watching the kids play and grow up over the years.

If you knew John, you knew he was a hard worker. He learned his work ethic from his father, and in turn, passed it along to his three boys. He started working when he was 15, cut and sold firewood during his college days, and kept working the rest of his life. John enjoyed working hard and was passionate about it. He liked building things in his woodshop where he made shelves, picture frames, and a cedar chest as a wedding gift to one of his sons. A loving and caring man, he also wasn’t afraid to tell you how it was and was even known to be a smart aleck at times.  Although he enjoyed working, his main love was his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Beth, in 1979 and adored his three sons and six grandchildren.

John will be deeply missed by Beth Mullins Allgeier, his wife of 45 years; his children Adam (Denise) Allgeier, Andrew (Amy) Allgeier, and Aaron (Rachel) Allgeier; grandchildren Avery, Brendan, Caroline, Edwin, Maxwell, Willa, plus one on the way; mother Ruth Kern; and siblings Marian (Ron) Roell, Terri (Randy) Bross, Rick (Melody) Allgeier. He is preceded in death by his father Victor Allgeier.

Visitation for John will be held on Monday, December 9 from 5:00 – 7:00 at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at 11:00am at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home immediately followed by burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Dover. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse. Memorials will be accepted at the visitation and funeral or can be mailed to the funeral home.
